Ultra-trendy midwifery company backed by Chelsea Clinton is sued after baby is born with brain damage

It’s a multi-million dollar start-up backed by Chelsea Clinton and Glamour magazine which claims to be “redesigning” how women give birth.

Oula operates from two clinics designed to look like interiors associated with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand, where it offers midwife-led care which it says dramatically cuts the rates of Cesarean sections and premature births.

Its star-studded events have featured CBS News anchor Gayle King, ballerina Misty Copeland and Seagram’s heiress Hannah Bronfman, while its polished social media includes motivational quotes for “birthing people.”

But now the health company has been hit by a lawsuit which claims its negligence led to a baby being born badly brain damaged.

The baby’s parents allege Oula’s midwives were “reckless” and failed to get obstetricians to act fast enough to deliver their baby boy by C-section last year.

The Brooklyn mother and father, who The Post is keeping anonymous, say that the midwives as well as doctors and nurses at Mount Sinai West, where Oula’s babies are delivered, used “contraindicated procedures” on the mother and baby.

The infant went into “fetal distress” when the birth was delayed and suffered hypoxic brain damage, the lawsuit says. Hypoxic brain damage occurs when there is not enough oxygen going to the brain.

Oula has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit, which was filed in Brooklyn State Supreme Court.

Poor choices on parent’s part. Shame on them for not respecting and using their doctors and instead relying upon this “trendy” fad for rich people.

Yeah. As if doctors in this country are covering themselves in glory for their wisdom, competence and integrity.

“Contraindicated” treatment was the only thing that saved people from dying in the hospital killing fields during the recent Plandemic/Dempanic.

I first used a midwife over 30 years ago, so it is not something new.

The problem is the same with midwives and physician’s assistants: they do not always know when they are in over their heads. Because they are the professionals, patients trust them.

What are people supposed to do? You hire a professional and then Monday-morning quarter-back them? No, because their expertise is why you hire them instead of just looking it up online.

That being said, I had a pregnancy where the midwives should have referred me to a high-risk pregnancy doctor. By the time I figured out what to do, it was too late.

We need to have stronger boundaries as to when PAs and midwives have to involve actual doctors.

I’m no fan of Chelsea, but trying to tie her into responsibility here is just ridiculous.

Our fifth was delivered with a midwife. Was the easiest. But very low risk.

Midwifery in a hospital. Have the romance with the immediate backup of oxygen or surgery.

But who in the hell wants a proabort obgyn!!!

Oh really, you know exactly what the babies condition was going to be upon birth as well as the mothers.

Anyone using a midwife and not a Dr or PA for delivery thinks very little of their children.

““redesigning” how women give birth.”

What a bunch of transphobes. Men can give birth just like a woman.

Childbirth is the most common natural event in the world. In history

Anyone can do it -and has

Having a baby at home (I didn’t read this. Too disturbing) can be done.

When the baby has trouble getting out surgery is necessary and then the care if the neonatal ICU staff is necessary otherwise you’re in Middle Ages territory

Ditto if the placenta doesn’t get properly disengaged. The amount and speed with which bleeding out occurs is very quick. People say so much blood when someone gets hit in the head. This is way above that

There’s a reason there are so many stepmothers in fairy tales handed down from the Middle Ages. Women died in childbirth.

Doctors can be a gigantic pain they take over. They treat childbirth like it’s an emergency they need to take over. They need to treat the parents like they’re stupid. The operate in fluorescent lighting bright enough to shut down labor. Which it does

But you have to have doctors around in case of an emergency. And their staff of knowledgeable techs and nurses with equipment machines and sterility

It takes humility and intelligence to do this right or just plain obedience. It can be done without drugs but don’t try this at home. Not in 2024.

I dare say that most women who choose to use midwives or homebirth are among the most educated about pregnancy and its associated risks. Their choice in not necessarily in malice or ignorance.

Drs and PAs do a tremendous amount of good. But delegating blind authority to the medical class to govern this process— in spite of the impact of insurance, academician groupthink, and the medical INDUSTRY— is as much in error as a woman choosing to defy medical intervention in the face of known problems.

My wife and I witnessed this first hand through 6 births and several eqrly term miscarriages. We chose homebirths for our first 4 and hospital births for the last 2. It was during those hospital and miscarriage events that my wife suffered the most. We are grateful for the interventions provided for number 5, but she also endured a number of hurtful decisions from callous Drs and nurses who “knew better” what she needed were things which produced unnecessary pain and further problems.

Our midwives were quite educated and forthright about their capabilities and when medical intervention would be solicited or required. Many states set licensing standards for this practice.

I’ve nothing against midwives delivering babies, but they should do so in a facility where an emergency can be addressed immediately.

When I was last pregnant, all of my prenatal visits were with a midwife. Nurse Cranston. But when I went to the hospital to deliver the baby, an obstetrician that I didn’t know showed up to do the delivery. The delivery was uncomplicated and the midwife probably could have handled it. But the obstetrician was the one who happened to be on call for New Year’s Day. Yeah, a New Year’s baby.

There’s more to this issue:

Many hospitals have been closing down their maternity wards for financial and other reasons. So, now, many pregnant women have no choice but to give birth at clinics.

The problem isn’t midwives vs. doctors. Sometimes, terrible things happen to babies when doctors deliver them, too.

IMHO, the problem is the location. I preferred midwives, but in those days, midwives could deliver babies in the hospital where you had immediate access to emergency care, if needed.

Sometimes, c-sections are performed unnecessarily, but sometimes they’re necessary.

Yeah, we did. This was our 5th child, as well as twins that were both over 8 lbs each. There were no complications with the prior births. My wife didn't even need an epidural. Had sonograms and other tests to show baby condition.

But you are right. All babies died in childbirth before doctors and PAs were invented.

As with everything else, one wants the best. A pro-life physician is not necessarily trained for a high-risk pregnancy, so better a physician who is not pro-life who is trained for high-risk pregnancies than a pro-life doctor who is not.

In all truth though, I'd bet the physicians working for this start-up are the best that money can buy.

Just because I'm forced to go see a doctor who graduated from the Congo Doctor School and doesn't speak English doesn't mean that Chelsea Clinton has to do this.
