< Was the easiest. But very low risk.

Oh really, you know exactly what the babies condition was going to be upon birth as well as the mothers.

Anyone using a midwife and not a Dr or PA for delivery thinks very little of their children.

I dare say that most women who choose to use midwives or homebirth are among the most educated about pregnancy and its associated risks. Their choice in not necessarily in malice or ignorance.

Drs and PAs do a tremendous amount of good. But delegating blind authority to the medical class to govern this process— in spite of the impact of insurance, academician groupthink, and the medical INDUSTRY— is as much in error as a woman choosing to defy medical intervention in the face of known problems.

My wife and I witnessed this first hand through 6 births and several eqrly term miscarriages. We chose homebirths for our first 4 and hospital births for the last 2. It was during those hospital and miscarriage events that my wife suffered the most. We are grateful for the interventions provided for number 5, but she also endured a number of hurtful decisions from callous Drs and nurses who “knew better” what she needed were things which produced unnecessary pain and further problems.

Our midwives were quite educated and forthright about their capabilities and when medical intervention would be solicited or required. Many states set licensing standards for this practice.

There’s more to this issue:

Many hospitals have been closing down their maternity wards for financial and other reasons. So, now, many pregnant women have no choice but to give birth at clinics.

The problem isn’t midwives vs. doctors. Sometimes, terrible things happen to babies when doctors deliver them, too.

IMHO, the problem is the location. I preferred midwives, but in those days, midwives could deliver babies in the hospital where you had immediate access to emergency care, if needed.

Sometimes, c-sections are performed unnecessarily, but sometimes they’re necessary.

Yeah, we did. This was our 5th child, as well as twins that were both over 8 lbs each. There were no complications with the prior births. My wife didn't even need an epidural. Had sonograms and other tests to show baby condition.

But you are right. All babies died in childbirth before doctors and PAs were invented.
