At least five of the Court’s Republicans seemed eager to, at the very least, permit Trump to delay his federal criminal trial for attempting to steal the 2020 election until after this November’s election. And the one GOP appointee who seemed to hedge the most, Chief Justice John Roberts, also seemed to think that Trump enjoys at least some immunity from criminal prosecution.

I like this quote from Roberts.

Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts signaled concern about relying merely on the “good faith” of the prosecutors to prevent abusive prosecutions against presidents if the Supreme Court rejects presidential immunity.

“Now you know,” Roberts told Dreeben, “how easy it is in many cases for a prosecutor to get a grand jury to bring an indictment. And reliance on the good faith of the prosecutor may not be enough in some cases

From the Vox article [The Department of Who Writes this Crap?]

“Justice Samuel Alito, meanwhile, played his traditional role as the Court’s most dyspeptic advocate for whatever position the Republican Party prefers. At one point, Alito even argued that permitting Trump to be prosecuted for attempting to overthrow the 2020 presidential election would “lead us into a cycle that destabilizes ... our democracy,” because future presidents who lose elections would mimic Trump’s criminal behavior in order to remain in office and avoid being prosecuted by their successor”

Alito is a conservative unlike most of the Republican Party.

Im anxiously awaiting Pelosi, Hillary and Al Gore to all get thrown in jail for 500 years for doing the exact same thing as Trump. When does their trial start?

Whoa! Who stole the 2020 election here? As far as I’m concerned we the voters demanded to know what happened in the dark of night while Trump was clearly the winner. Trumps people have explained over and over how the dims stole it. The dims just say it wasn’t stolen with no facts or figures to back it up. I feel disenfranchised that my vote was not counted . Thank you Trump and company for defending and questioning my vote.

...permit Trump to delay his federal criminal trial for attempting to steal the 2020 election...

People should get punched in the mouth very hard for telling such a lie.

The election was stolen. Trump was trying to prove it. We have the proof now, but so many people rushed to accept the results of the corrupt election that we now have to live with a corrupt, perverted, senile idiot.

If SCOTUS rules Trump does not have presidential immunity, then lawsuits need to fly the day the ruling is issued against former presidents Obama and Clinton. (of course, the corrupt courts will protect them, but would love to see a thousand lawsuits on Day One.)

Likely result remand to lower court to flesh out what were official acts and private ones. Hopefully, the trial will be delayed beyond Election Day.

What awful, tendentious writing!

"[The author has] argued that [Trump's] immunity case was primarily about delaying Trump’s trial until after the election.

It's as if the author thinks Trump brought the case!?!? Though claiming to have gone to law school, the author apparently believes Trump knew there was no such thing as presidential immunity and should have simply lain down in front the prosecutors and said, "Just crucify me now already!"

Policemen have immunity! Prosecutors have immunity! Judges have immunity! A president should simply curl up and let partisans like Biden, Garland, and the the likes of Strzok at the DOJ be free to second-guess everything an ex-president might have done while in office in the hopes of bankrupting him and throwing him in prison?

“Justice Amy Coney Barrett, meanwhile, pointed to the fact that Sauer drew a distinction between prosecuting a president for “official” behavior (which Sauer said is not allowed), and prosecuting a president for his “private” conduct (which Sauer conceded is permitted). Barrett also argued that many of the charges against Trump, such as his work with private lawyers and political consultants to overthrow the 2020 election, qualify as private conduct and thus could still be prosecuted.”

Trump was still President when he and his lawyers tried to bring the election fraud to the courts and was official business, not private conduct.
