Russia is making daily tactical gains in eastern Ukraine, as concerns swirl around Ukrainian military reporting

Vladimir Putin’s forces have made further gains in at least three locations along the eastern front in Ukraine – including for the first time in several months an advance in the northern Kharkiv region – highlighting again Kyiv’s need for ammunition and weapons from the United States and other allies.

Russia’s tactical advances are now daily and reflect the new tempo on the battlefield since the fall of the industrial town of Avdiivka in February.

The gains are generally modest -– from a few hundred meters of territory to perhaps a kilometer at most – but they are usually taking place in several locations at once.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s losses are being accompanied by criticism from influential military bloggers and analysts of the armed forces’ official battlefield updates.

One of Russia’s main efforts is in the Donetsk region. Ukraine’s DeepState monitoring group, which updates daily changes in frontline positions, shows Russian forces pushing forward in eight different locations along 20-25 kms of frontline in one 24-hour period.

Military bloggers on both sides have reported that Russian forces have crossed a water course and taken control of the settlements of Semenivka and Berdychi – which Ukrainian army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed in a post on Telegram on Sunday. Russia had deployed up to four brigades in offensive operations in the area, Syrskyi said.

There is an entire Russian Army Group, now operating northwest from Avdiivka.

Didn’t we tell you Biden’s foreign policy initiatives always end in disaster?

I’m surprised Ukraine has lasted this long. The Russian people must be getting tired of this war.

The Russian people must be getting tired of this war.

The (former) Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that the losses sustained by the Russian invaders would stop any country, but apparently human life is worthless in Russia.

I have no idea what is going on over there. If CNN says anything I don’t believe it. Anything they say could be true or false and I don’t know how to tell so I actually know even less than before.

You think the Russian people know? Only those with family members who don't return or return injured know some of what's going on. And those that do know won't be speaking out Those that do know, won't be able to speak to others about it. Tyrannical regimes have a way of keeping people quiet and obedient.

Funny how every time congress passes billions more for Ukraine, stories come out saying how badly they’re doing.

Enough tactical gains joined together can become strategic gains.

Putin's power base is in Moscow and St. Petersburg. He's not conscripting heavily in both metro areas. So the Russian police and FSB will all support Putin because the war in Ukraine is not really affecting them.

Supply shortage is not Ukraine’s only problem. Shortage of trained soldiers is a problem as losses mount. Perhaps MOST IMPORTANT IS MORALE AMONG UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS. Ukrainian soldiers are in FOR THE DURATION. They will be in the war until it ends or they are either killed or disabled. On the other hand I understand that their Russian counterparts are in for fixed periods. The Russian soldier knows when his tour of duty will end. More and more I’m hearing of and reading of frontline Ukrainian units REBELLING and refusing to fight.

This problem will only grow as more and more become war weary. Just sayin’.

“ apparently human life is worthless in Russia.”

Keep repeating that and you might eventually actually believe it. Few others do.

Just read Russian history. The Russians are always taking tremendous casualties in their wars. They treat their soldiers as cannon fodder.

What they're doing in Ukraine is nothing new to them.

They're still taking a lot of casualties. Eventually, the Russian army had enough in WWI. So far, they're not breaking. But the war goes on long enough, maybe they will decide that they had enough.

The Ukrainians hate the Russians. So they're motivated to fight.

What is the motivation of a typical Russian conscript? They're using fear to intimidate him to fight. But at some point, that may not work anymore.

This is a war of attrition. It's all about who's going to break first.

The Soviets had trouble occupying Afghanistan for 10 years before they gave up.

Even if the front collapses in Ukraine, the Russians will still have to go in and occupy town by town where they are not welcomed by the locals.
