It was a mistake enough that she felt the need to clarify her remarks during the next day's show.
You're right that it's probably not a mistake that she didn't outright apologize to Bobulinski for saying that a Trump PAC was paying his legal fees. The best that Tarlov could manage was to say that "she saw no evidence" that Trump PAC payments to Bobulinski's law firm were used to defend Bobulinski.
