A bruised upper lip. Broken ribs. A severe skull fracture. The head injury would kill tiny Delijahjuan Winden on Tuesday, after only 41 days of life. The infant died when his caregiver, Daniel Leikas, raised him over his head and threw him into a car seat, according to charges filed Wednesday. He was frustrated because Delijahjuan was fussy and crying all night, the court document said.
"This is the first time I've seen an infant this young beaten this badly," Minneapolis Police Capt. Mike Martin said.
Police came to the north Minneapolis apartment of Leikas and the baby's mother, Zonebia Benson-Winden, at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, after she called 911. Delijahjuan wasn't breathing and his mom said he had a history of respiratory problems, the document said.

The "caregiver"
The "boyfriend problem."
But we're not supposed to criticize alternate families.
I know from experience an all night crying baby can make one a little nuts and even angry, but that is NO excuse for harming an innocent baby. This guy will be loved in prison.
"But we're not supposed to criticize alternate families."
Yep. Hate speech.
I really had a tough time getting all the way through this story.
This scum won't fair well in prison. Inmates have a code of their own. This POS will get the same treatment he gave this poor baby.
I agree. My youngest son was a *fussy baby* (that's putting it mildly--he cried most of the time, unless he was nursing or being rocked/carried). That's no excuse. But some people should never be around infants. This guy appears to be one of those people. May he enjoy prison life....

"Leikas, charged with second-degree murder, told police he didn't know whether he was Delijahjuan's biological father."
"The majority of recent cases involving children who died from abuse involve men who can't stop crying babies, she said."

Crying babies not their own. To mothers they are not married to... What does Wild Kingdom have to say about lions and bears killing and eating cubs not their own?
Remember, this IS Minnesota. He could wind up in a halfway house.
You may recall this story, it was discussed here.

Be sure to read the judge's comments. The prosecutor wanted a much longer sentence, but guidelines (HURL) only allowed 23 months...
I realize that the actual perp has a normal name, but
"Delijahjuan"????
"Zonebia"????
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ???
There seems to be a correlation between pathological domestic arrangements, and totally off-the-wall names.
Her choice of "caregiver," coupled with her choice of the name "Delijahjuan" suggests poor judgment on her part, at the very least.
!
I agree. What ever happened to names like "Bob" and "Susan"?
It is beyond my comprehension to understand why people no longer love little ones. All he had to do was to hold the little guy and rock him. He probably had a touch of colic or maybe he just needed to be burped.
The autopsy showed that the baby's rib fractures had been healing.
Obviously the child had been abused before.
The 41 days he was alive must have been hell.
At the risk of being accused of trying to derail the thread, I think the answer is simple. To the perp, this was just a post-natal abortion.
Those Northern Europeans do this sort of thing all the time.
"The "boyfriend problem."
But we're not supposed to criticize alternate families."
Yes...the strongest statistical risk factor for child abuse is whether there is a male in the household who is not biologically linked to the child.
the mommy boyfriend/stepdad problem.
my husband and I haven't slept since november with our new little one.
It can make you nuts.
I never drank coffee my whole life until now. I don't know what I'd do now without coffee.
poor little baby - he probably just needed a diaper change and to be driven around the block a few times.
"Then again, what does that say about the "human females" who continually breed ....?"
ahem.
excuse me? What DOES that say?
I've had seven thank you.
You are probably right.
The Liberal/Socialist/Marxist/Progressives have taken away our humanity.
