Bought this gun today and am asking the experts what over the counter ammo feeds through this weapon? As stated, the gun is a flat-top with a Simmons scope along with a bi-pod as the only add-on's. The serial number is BK010XXX and I believe this a post-ban weapon, correct?
I have shot competively in the past with .45 auto's and this is my first semi-auto rifle. I believe this dude will drive tack's as I have read. I just would like some overall advise.
Send it to me and I’ll let you know.
LOL!
How ‘bout I let you shoot it and you buy me a beer?
Heck if I know. The upper receiver could have been changed out and you have about a dozen choices of calibers.
What does the receiver say on the side of the mag well? Any paperwork with it?
Take it to where you were competing and ask them to show you how it works.
I don’t own any guns myself. Used to, but not any more.
The AR15 fires .223(Rem), AKA 5.56.
Why did you post a pic of the pistol when asking about an AR15? Confusing.
Federal XM193 or Winchester are the top in affordable target ammo.
Join the NRA and look for their local rifle club.
What is a SIG GSR? That picture looks like a 1911. I know what a SIG 226 is or i forget all the model designations.
Gun is original.
Reciever:
CAR-A3
HBAR Elite
Cal. 223
Ser. BK0
That took a while...
As I stated in my comments, I bought the SIG in the last two weeks. Haven’t taken a picture of the new baby yet.
SIG GSR is a 1911 knock-off. No differnt than Kimbers, Springfield’s, Wilson etc.
Any particular grain?
What is the twist?
Generally bulk purchase Winchester or Federal ‘white box’ FMJ works for me.

My wife said she would divorce me if I got one. She just ended up just going to bed early.

I bought a big box of Winchester white box .45 target, and the bullet nose is sort of flat. I was getting some failures to feed in my CZ 97 so I got some Sellier & Bellot (Czech) full metal jacket walking-around ammo. No probs with the 9mm Winchester though.
55 is fine. The Hbar elites are 1/9 so they can take anything.
did you get this in Chantilly? I’m heading over there tomorrow morning and I’m wondering how it was?
Nope. I got it at The Armory in Annapolis, MD. I think the guys name was Hal. I paid too much. Oh well... can’t wait to shoot it.
recommend that you feed it only .223 ammo, as marked on the barrel.
5.56 has similar exterior dimensions, but the brass itself is thicker, and works at higher pressures.
not that you couldn’t feed it 5.56 in a pinch.
my $.02 worth...
good for you.. enjoy.
Congratulations. Pretty soon you will have more I hope. So far I have 4 complete ARs of various lengths, and two more stripped lowers to build. The bedwetting liberals would have a stroke if they saw my gun storage room. Or should I say arsenal.
Nice! Built a couple of those from kits.
should work well with 55gr and 62 gr ammo.
Tell your wife that buying a gun is a great investment.
These?
If your wife will only let you have one, I’ll be happy to take one off your hands.
:)
YOU PEOPLE ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO LUCKY!
Try buying a Colt AR15 here in the Communist State of KALIFORNIA. If I am not mistaken, AR15 is classified as an Assault weapon.
Handguns are entirely a different breed as well. If it is on the list of ban handguns, nope can’t own it!
You’re asking what feeds? THe answer is whatever ammo that doesn’t jam. Go buy some and see for yourself.
Hint: Start with .223 remington.

That’s a lot of technical that the wife probably doesn’t appreciate. She is going to bed early you say. My wife told me after I bought a set of headers for my car and they were setting in my office: “I hope they are not too cold for you tonight”
“What is the twist?”

I like Federal in my match AR for just starting out.
I do reload for it with 69 Grain Sierra MatchKings, H335 powder and Winchester Primers.
Keep away from Wolf cartridges because of the heavy lacquer coating but any reputable cartridge will work fine.
Don’t be tempted to use the military cleaning rods. They will destroy that bore. Buy a good cleaning rod from a company called Dewey. You can order it from MidwayUSA.
Didn’t know that. This is one of the reasons I posted this question. I have been out of brass shooting for years.
Thanks

That’s all I need is more expensive hobbies!!! Thanks

Do you work at Walmart? You are a wealth of information!
Do you know what the twist on the barrel is? That will often times give you an idea of what weight bullet will shoot best.
My Colt AR 15 is my “honey” rifle. Unless you handload I would suggest using Winchester .223 or Remington. I’ve never had a problem with those.

Again, this is why I posted this here. I really appreciate your response and advise. I wouldn’t have known this....thanks again.
Advice? worst case scenario, you will need to bury it after telling all your neighbors and half the world you have it, get some large diameter PVC pipe, either glue both ends for a sure seal or have one end with a threaded plug, grease is real good, throw some dry ice in with it and let it displace the corrosive oxygen and then seal it up.
Get as much ammo as you can afford.
If all goes well and we don’t see a gun ban in the US then take care of it, learn how to strip it down and clean it properly and the right kind of lubricants, if you find any deals on uppers like a bigger cartridge then snag them up.
I have 2 AR 15s but my real pet is my Springfield pre-ban M1A in .308.
I second the Dewey. Use it in my AR and my Garand. It has a coated shaft, and a sliding cone-shaped piece that you line up with the front of the barrel so that you don't rub the rifling. I also agree about Wolf ammo - for emergency use only IMHO. I like Federals as well, but I have a large quantity of unbranded military ammunition for use in "emergency".
I'll have to look into the 69-grain Matchkings. I don't have .223 dies yet, but I intend to get a set. I think that it's high time that I got more acquainted with my reloading equipment.
Nope.
But I do shop there!
Anytime friend. The first one’s free.
Shooter 2.5, thanks again I just ordered both the .45 and AR-15 cleaning kit from MidwayUSA.
With a 1in9” you should be able to shoot up to 69 grainers no problems.
Better yet, tell her there was a sale. She'll understand.
Brownell’s
Out of Stock[for the good milspec mags]
